Never Brought To Mind It's an odd town, it's an old town And the Town Hall is just being closed down As the old, hunched men smoke straight at their shoes And the bookies is warm, even after you lose It all went too far, outside this new bar How it got so bad, I'm not even sure But it's easier to drown your sorrows alone And shame is an ugly friend to keep dragging home When the fight broke out, I nearly lost my mind When that guy went for you, I got there just in time And you said 'my love, I guess we'd better leave' You kissed my swollen lip and held my ripped shirt sleeve Then when we got lost, you swore we'd freeze to death You tried to flag down the cars that all sped up instead From the darkness beside me, you sang 'Auld Lang Syne' I was never more yours, you were never more mine Victoria Park, In the blistering snow I made us miss the tube to save that cheap banjo If you'd had your way we would now be in bed I put us on the wrong bus the wrong way instead I said 'I'm sorry' I said 'I love you' It was true then and it's still true As it started to rain you started to cry That we were now lost was hard to deny You said do something or else we'll both freeze to death You knocked on every door that just slammed shut instead And should old acquaintance not be brought to mind I was once yours and you were once mine © Ryan O'Reilly

Portobello Road The walls are grafittied the rubbish is strewn The carnival has come to town The windows still boarded the Police are scared Last week this whole city burned down There is no situation that they can't make worse There is thirty-five thousand around And they'll bravely chase after the fiercest of foes Provided they're easily found Imagine the future, imagine a boot, imagine a human face Imagine a country where everyone's watched and then firmly put back in their place From Ladbroke Grove Station to Notting Hill Gate The market is dead on its feet Past Orwell's old house with dead looks in their eyes and Their clip-boards they march down the street You could go after them with guitars in your hands But they'll sure enough quickly deploy Drones to steal from you, choke you and shatter your bones Those that can't create always destroy So Imagine the future, imagine a boot, imagine a human face Imagine a country where everyone's watched and then firmly put back in their place We gathered in silence in the back of the bar On the street where the bands used to play Nursing our drinks and cursing our luck Surely they don't deserve the last say So raise your instruments high and your voice to the sky It's all that we have for the fight When they've turned this all into one shopping mall They'll finally sleep well at night So Imagine the future, imagine a boot, imagine a human face Imagine a country where everyone's watched and then firmly put back in their place Ryan O'Reilly ©

The Evil Quarter Mile On the Evil Quarter Mile they have many words for love Not all of them are just four letters either You only knew the one but it was safe upon your tongue 'Till you swallowed it and whispered 'now it's over' All of your different intonations required expert explanations It still all sounds so foreign to me now But before you take your aim I will admit I was to blame But permit me if you will this final vow That I cannot forgive you I can't forgive you I won't forgive you For letting me let you go All of the millionaires and billionaires who stroll through Holland Park They had no time for us and me not for them either You informed me as you combed your hair That the BBC had put you there At the top of the spiral stairs 'till Easter I watched the Holy Father's slow parade Down The Mall it threatened rain As helicopters swirled into the ether You were sick outside a Mayfair bar Your taxi didn't get that far Down one-way streets that won't out-run your fever I cannot forgive you I can't forgive you I won't forgive you For letting me let you go My confession confused you Like it was designed to do Everything I said that's true Concealed a lie You watered every bruise with tears Flooded through the happy years Ran alone but still you feared you'd finish last I won't try to defend my pride or resurrect what's clearly died Or subject you to my advances I won't try myself to explain It couldn't deaden any pain And you never did believe in second chances I cannot forgive you I can't forgive you I won't forgive you For letting me let you go Ryan O'Reilly ©
